CueSoc League

What is CueSoc League?

CueSoc League is a team-based 8-Ball League run multiple times a year for CueSports Society members. The aim is not just to provide a competitive environment, but to foster teamwork and the social aspect of pool. We use a handicap system, so you can still have plenty of fun as a beginner!

Each season of League consists of 16 teams of 3 players each. You can sign up as a complete team, but if you'd prefer to sign up solo/in a pair we can also team you up with other players.

How is a season of CueSoc League structured?

The 16 teams are split into two sessions, one playing from 6-8pm and another from 8-10pm. You can indicate your session preference when signing up. The season runs for 8 weeks- your team will play every other team in your session once (taking up the first 7 weeks), plus an extra match against a random team for the 8th week.

At the end of the 8 weeks, there is usually a 1-2 week break before a Finals Day. All 16 teams play on Finals Day in a single-elimination tournament. The top 8 teams on the ladder from the 8 week are seeded.

The season ladder included all 16 team regardless of session. It is ordered first by number of match wins, then by points difference in the case of ties.

Prizes

Team prizes are awarded for: Winner on Finals Day, Runners Up on Finals Day, and Minor Premiers. Individual Prizes are awarded for: Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player.

How does the handicap system work?

Each player in a team is assigned a handicap, with a higher handicap indicating a higher skill level. Your team's handicap is the sum of the handicaps of each player on the team. For each match, a team gets a head-start (see "Format of Matches" below for a description of how points work) which is the difference of the team handicaps. For example, if Team A had a combined handicap of 50, and Team B had 40, then Team B would receive a 10 point head-start.

Format of Matches

A match consists of a mixture of singles and doubles games. Each player on your team plays every player on the opposing team once, for a total of 9 singles games. Then, 3 scotch doubles (alternating shot) matches are played worth double points.

The winner of a frame gets 10 points for their team. The loser gets points equal to the number of balls of their type sunk (e.g. if the loser had stripes and there were 4 stripes down, regardless of who sunk them, they would get 4 points).

The team with the most points (including the head-start due to the handicap difference) by the end of the match wins.
